This is as much for me as it is for my friends and Toronto blog readers. Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) is a city-wide mentoring program much like Big Brother-Big Sister, that works to pair up young people with young children to provide them with a safe space in which they feel comfortable to talk, confide, hang out, and work in. If any of you have 3 hours a week to spare and can commit to a year’s volunteering, please give this program a chance. These kids don’t ask to be born or placed in troubled environments where they are neglected. Mentoring them is the perfect opportunity to make them feel like what they think, do, and say really matters. I’m definitely considering it come September, and I hope you do too.
